MARAGARET RIVER DOMINATE THE 2013 WA JIM BEAM SURFTAG TITLE

MARGARET RIVER Boardriders Club dominated the Western Australia Jim Beam Surftag on Saturday, sweeping the final with both their A & B teams claiming first and second position respectively.

In firing conditions at Gas Bay, the local boardriders club blew away their competition, jostling for the lead between each other the entire final. Margaret River will now be one of only a few clubs to have two teams through to the Australian Championships to be held at Duranbah Beach, Queensland on April 5 – 7.

Jethro Hedstrom (Margaret River “A”) won the BOSCH Powerwave Award at the WA Jim Beam Surftag with an 8.83.

The Annual Margaret River Classic is Western Australia’s premier amateur surfing event run by the Margaret River Boardriders Club in conjunction with Cowaramup Bay Boardriders and Surfing WA. The event is held over three days
in the powerful waves of Surfer’s Point, Margaret River. After a years hiatus in 2011 due to a lack of public support for community focused club surfing and a fire ravaged coastal region; the local Margaret River surfers, passionate about
their favourite pastime, have encouraged the community to get behind the sport their town is known for. In 2012 the community and supporting sponsors have made an honest contribution to assist the Margaret River Boardriders
Club to re-establish their premier event and continue with it’s long standing traditions. In 2012 the event is celebrating it’s 32nd anniversary.

2012 Schedule

Competition commences @ 6.30am daily and finishes at approximately 5.00pm. Help preserve the fragile coastal environment, stay on existing walkways and put your rubbish in the bin.
Friday 2nd Locals Only, Over 40′ s & Over 50’s
Saturday 3rd Men’s Open, Women’s Open & Pro Junior
Sunday 4th All Division Finals, Legends & Paddle Race

Josh Burke Takes 2012 Gracetown Grommets

It was a great day at Huzzas in Gracetown with good surf. We had Keighley Bremner and Aaron McFarlane (both who lost their dads in the Gracetown Tragedy) speak at the presentation and had a minute silence in remembrance. Their parents originally started the event as an inter-school competition. After the Gracetown Tragedy it became the Gracetown Grommets club event and they are grateful that the event is continuing on in memory of their parents and what they originally started.

Josh Burke (MARGS) and Ella Massie (MARGS), has emerged victorious at this years 16th Gracetown Grommets. Burke was lethal throughout the entirety of the Greacetown Grommets, continuously posting several of the event’s highest scores unloading a barrage of amazing aerials including the only perfect 10-point ride in his Semifinals The Margs grommet battled hard in the 16 under boys final, edging out Cottesloe Jake Edwards (PERTH).
