ABOUT US

The Club

The Margaret River Boardriders Club Inc. is a group of people who enjoy surfing and the community aspect of club sport. Dubbed as Margs for short, the club wasestablished in 1978 and is one of the most respected and longest running Boardriders clubs in Australia.

The club has a focus on the development of members technical and competitive surfing skills, local environmental issues, celebrating the tradition of our iconicevents, holding a club championship season, helping to educate members about the surf industry and the clubs mission to be ‘the voice of surfing’ in Margaret River.

The club is constantly striving to be a portal for local surfers in the Margaret River region aiming to provide an opportunity to voice community related concerns and ideas in relation to the surfing environment and sport of surfing to a wider audience.

Our Beaches

The Margaret River region in the South West of Western Australia provides some of the most picturesque ocean views and ideal surfing locations in the World for surfers of all levels of ability.

The area of the club’s ‘jurisdiction’ starts to the South of Margaret River at Boranup Beach and covers all the beaches to the north, finishing at Honeycombs Beach, which is considered neutral ground with Yallingup Boardriders.

Most events are held in the town of Prevelly with some events held at any location within this region on occasion.

Healthy Rivalry

Over the years the club has developed fierce rivalries with other strong clubs, mainly being Yallingup Boardriders, Trigg Boardriders and Geraldton Boardriders. The term “crossing the boarder” is often used as a way to promote inter-club rivalry when a surfer from one club enters another clubs area of jurisdiction.

Club rivalries are brought to a head at state and national teams events where the winner claims the title of best club in the state or nation for that calendar year.

Events

The club holds a range of events each year that are categorized into four groups: Club Championship, Junior Club Championship, Specialty/Teams and Pro/Amateur.

The club is responsible for running two of the most prestigious amateur state level events in Western Australia including the Margaret River Classic which is in its 32nd year and the Gracetown Grommets junior event.

Please see attached event calendar for a categorized list of the 2012 seasons events.

The club membership base ranges from young children aspiring to enter their first event, to full blown professional world tour surfers.
