Well would you believe it , offshore and 3 to 4 ft waves greeted the club for the final round of 2009, making it five great comps in a row for new contest director Scott Holley. Some say he has a direct line to Huey , others say he’s just damn lucky, either way all the competitors were stoked with the conditions at Karates and Noiseys. The standard of surfing matched the great waves and in the senior mens Glen “Starry” Knight milked the smaller fast peeling lefts, putting Brad Cowan into second place, Scott Holley third and Mick Shaw fourth. The juniors were ripping it up with a close tussle, between Jamie “L” s and Ryan with Jamie’s verticle attack securing him first place from Ryan third Bronte Macaulay and Blake ” Ronald” McDonald in fourth. The open final was all time and the judges were treated to a surfing spectacular in their own backyard with Tom Innes carving it up to the max and Brett Hardy blasting any thing that resembled a lip as well as Dave “forever young” Macaulay racking up the points with his patented power snap in the pocket. Andrew “Heave HO! Sheridan threw everything he had at the star studded line up but the northerly had just kicked in and old huey dished him up some classic closeouts keeping him in catchup mode for the whole final. Tommy Innes was pushed alll the way by Brett “Hacks” Hardy’s full on approach but he was just too polished and took the chockies from Hardy with “d. Mac” third and “Sherro” bringing up the rear.The presentations were held in Dave’ s front yard with the following results rounding up a great year. The first round of next season will be in October ‘09 and the club is looking forward to a bigger and better year.
